On February, 29, 2000, Global Forest Watch released its first maps and reports on Canada, Cameroon and Gabon. The frontier forests were also put online at, www.globalforestwatch.org.
Global Forest Watch colleagues from Central Africa and Canada – Henriette Bikie, coordinator of Global Forest Watch Cameroon, Will Horter, vice president of Global Forest Watch Canada and Romeo Saganash, director of government relations of the Grand Council of the Crees will show their findings and explain how local groups are coming together in their countries to monitor their forests. I’d like to also recognize the representatives of Global Forest Watch partners in other countries.
Dirk Bryant, director of Global Forest Watch, will tell you how it works and why it is a product of the information revolution. Susanne Bergstrand, environment manager of IKEA International — the world’s largest furniture company — will explain how Global Forest Watch will allow companies to green their practices.
Joel Campbell, regional manager of ESRI, will explain how the software they have donated makes it possible for Global Forest Watch partners to produce the maps that are the core product of Global Forest Watch.
