These forests are being opened up at a rapid pace. Cameroon is a good example…logging company concessions are shown here in purple. As you can see, concessions have encroached increasingly into protected areas since 1959, mostly in the last decade. It also shows that over 80 percent of unprotected forests have been logged, is under active concessions, or is slated for cutting. The situation in Gabon is the same.
