Global Forest Watch Power Point Slide #26: Cameroon Pie chart - Logging Violations
Cameroon is in the process of implementing far-sighted forest legislation.
The problem is compliance.
Their forest laws regulating the logging industry are very well thought out, but unfortunately, the laws are not being adhered to or enforced. Global Forest Watch will help put teeth into these laws.
As this graph shows, in two key provinces in Cameroon, we found that even where companies and others are cited for breaking the rules, most cases were never prosecuted in court.
One in five of the government dossiers we acquired had “ stopped at the influence of a higher authority” written on them.
