- Activist NGOs can are using Global Forest Watch information in their campaigns to stop deforestation.
- Governments have, for the most part, welcomed Global Forest Watch information as it provides them with a clearer picture of what is going on inside their forests.
- The wood products industry is also using Global Forest Watch information. IKEA, the world’s largest furniture manufacturer, recently committed to stop buying wood from intact, natural forests. They have announced their sponsorship of Global Forest Watch, because we are building the tracking system they and others need, to assure they buy wood from environmentally-friendly sources. Home Depot has pledged to stop buying wood from endangered forests is also supporting Global Forest Watch. Our data will allow these companies to make good on these commitments, and empower consumers to make the right choices for our forests.
- New information technologies are key to Global Forest Watch’s work. Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc., ESRI, the world’s largest software mapping company, has announced a large donation of software and training for our partners as has ERDAS, a major supplier of software used to interpret satellite imagery.
