How Global Forest Watch Will Make a Difference
Combine people and technology

Global Forest Watch PowerPoint slide #38: How Global Forest Watch will Make a Difference
Global Forest Watch is new monitoring tool that can help slow global deforestation around the world. How so?
First, global forest monitoring is currently limited to estimates by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, on how much forest is permanently cleared each year. This is not very useful, because once these forests are lost, its usually too late to do anything about it. Global Forest Watch provides the first early warning monitoring of threats to forests in time for people to take action, before these show up as deforestation statistics.
Second, Global Forest Watch tracks who is behind logging, mining and other development, where these activities threaten forests, and where laws are being broken. This information holds governments and companies accountable for their practices, and is information that voters, consumers and others can use to make sure laws and promises are upheld.
Global Forest Watch does this by combining people and technology. We empower local groups with the tools and information they need to reach out to the world.
